Functionality: Valve cores are spring-actuated, cartridge-type check valves that screw into a mating threaded cavity (housing). They feature a soft elastomeric seating washer and an extended actuation shaft, which, when depressed, allows flow to pass through the valve.

Applications: These valves are commonly used for tire pressurization within the tire valve stem and have a wide range of applications including automotive and industrial applications such as accumulators, high-pressure tanks, fire extinguishers, cylinders (hydraulic/air), industrial valves, refrigerant gas valves, life vests, and floatation rings.

Material and Construction: Valve cores are made from materials like brass and stainless steel (for springs), with sealing materials including polychloroprene (Neoprene), Nitrile-Butadiene (Nitrile), Hydrogenated Nitrile-Butadiene (HNBR), Fluorocarbon (Viton®, GFLT), Silicone, Epichlorohydrin, Silastic, and PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy) 。 They are designed to control a variety of fluids such as air, nitrogen, R12, R22, R134a, R1234-YF, oils, Halon, SF6, Petrol’s, and many other fluids.

Performance Characteristics: Valve cores are defined by their characteristics, which vary depending on the material, finish, and design. Key definitions include opening pressure, which is the air pressure needed to overcome the spring’s resistance and allow air to pass through, and minimum and maximum travel, which is the distance the pin can travel without damaging the valve core.

Installation and Serviceability: The installation torque for standard cores per ISO is 3 – 5in. lbs. [0.34 – 0.57 Nm], and it is recommended to use drafted torque driver bits for automated assembly to reduce damage to the valve core 。 No valve cores should be reused after removal from the valve body; always install a new valve core when servicing the system for air, fluid, or gas applications.
